The Eisenach Town Castle was built in stages from early 1742 onwards, under the direction of the architect Gottfried Heinrich Krohne. The former residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Eisenach and the Grand Dukes of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach can look back upon an eventful past. In addition to the tourist information office the former ducal seat also houses an impressive collection of Thuringian folklore, art and cultural history. It is used for special exhibitions, galleries and exhibitions of the porcelain collection.
