Monument Burschenschaftsdenkmal Eisenach

A visit to the Burschenschaftsdenkmal, the monument to the student fraternities, offers panoramic views over the town of Eisenach, the Thuringian forest, the Hörselberge hills and what is considered the finest view of the Wartburg.
The monument to the unity and freedom of Germany on the Göpelskuppe is 33 metres high. The architrave in historicising Art Nouveau style bears the inscription “Ehre, Freiheit, Vaterland” – honour, liberty. fatherland. The architect Wilhelm Kreis and the Dresden art professor Otto Gussmann created a harmonious unit of architecture, ceiling painting and window art. A journey back in time in the history of the student fraternities can be embarked upon in the memorial hall and the exhibition at the centre of the monument, which was inaugurated on 22 May 1902.
