St. Mary´s Church

One of the most significant buildings in Mühlhausen is St. Mary´s Church. An impressive architectural and historic monument, it represents the proud history of this former imperial town.
No matter which direction you approach Mühlhausen from, the 86-m-high tower of St. Mary´s Church soars above the Medieval town. The church is the second largest in Thuringia, with the highest church tower. Today it serves primarily as a museum, offering space for art and culture. German Peasants' Revolt leader Thomas Müntzer once preached from the pulpit of St. Mary´s Church. Johann Sebastian Bach's Ratswahlkantate was heard here for the first time. History is not only documented in this impressive religious building, it is also still tangible to this day.
