Luther House

Lutherhaus Eisenach

The Luther House in Eisenach is one of the oldest remaining timber-framed buildings in the town and houses a permanent exhibition focusing on Luther as a scholar, bible translator as well as teacher of the church and people.

Martin Luther spent part of his school years in Eisenach. From 1498 until 1508 it is said that he lived in the present-day Luther House as a Latin scholar with the aldermen family Cotta. Luther's memory was preserved over the course of the centuries. The museum has been located in the former Cotta house since 1956 and shows the effects of the bible translation on religion, culture and language in the German-speaking world. Special exhibitions, readings, museum festivals and the parsonage archive serve to draw in further visitors.
