Wildcat village

Wilde kattendorp Hütscheroda im Nationaalpark Hainich

Observing wildcats as they eat, hunt or sun themselves - this is only possible in the Hütscheroda wildcat village. In the wildcat barn you can find out all you need to know about the lives of these shy hunters.

In the wild it is nearly impossible to observe these shy animals, yet here they romp in the wildcat glade in the near-natural enclosure, before the eyes of visitors. In the wildcat barn in the centre of the village a large exhibition provides interactive and creative information about the animals, the wildcat rescue network and the Hainich National Park. This surrounds the wildcat village, which is unique of its kind in Germany, and can be explored wonderfully with a walk along the wildcat trail.
