Hainichlandweg - Tor zum Hainich

National Park Hiking Trail

Milestone Rennstieg in the Hainich National Park

The approx. 31 km-long Rennstieg in the Hainich region is a traditional ridgeway and courier route which was first mentioned in 1448. 8.5 km lead through the Hainich National Park which resembles a primeval forest.

Owing to its length, it is also called the “little brother” of the legendary Rennsteig. From Eigenrieden in the north to Behringen in the south, it runs over the Hainich ridge. A great part is developed as gravelled forest road and is very popular among families. Natural beech forests alternate with distant views to the Wartburg with the Thuringian Forest in the background and to the Fahner Heights.
