Werra-Burgen-Steig

Nearly 500 km in length, the Werra-Burgen-Steig hiking trail passes through three federal states. The historic trail is unique in Germany, with numerous castles high above the banks of the River Werra, often directly on the German Green Belt.
The Werra-Burgen-Steig trail in the World Heritage region leads from the UNESCO World Heritage site Wartburg across the Rennsteig to the Brandenburg castle, then on to the Creuzburg Castle and Normannstein Castle near Treffurt. The Hainichlandweg and Leine-Werra hiking trails accompany it. Grandiose views, enchanting landscapes, castles and monasteries lie directly on the route or adjacent to it. The Werra-Burgen-Steig is suitable for long and short distances at any time of year. Art, culture, concerts and food draw hikers onto the trail.
