Treffurt
Located in the Werratal, this city with its half-timbered houses and its historic city centre worth seeing belongs to the German half-timbered houses route (Deutsche Fachwerkstraße). The town hall is one of the half-timbered town halls of the Renaissance.
A visit to the Normannstein Castle promises a trip back to the 12th century. The exhibition “Werra castles over Werra fords“ in the big square tower presents five castles in the Werratal. Around the Heldrastein hill, you can discover an extensive nature reserve. The 700 km long Kunstwanderweg (Art Trail) Ars natura leads through Treffurt. The work of Lisa Böhme “Unsere liebe Sippschaft“ is a part of the artwork between Hesse and Thuringia.
